The Industry Finally Caught Up to the Sunrise Set

The Industry Finally Caught Up to the Sunrise Set

A few years ago, if you told a club owner their morning yoga session mattered as much as their Saturday night booking, they'd have laughed. Now there's a name for it - "soft clubbing" - and the numbers behind it are hard to ignore. Sober-curious events are climbing fast, and daytime, wellness-adjacent gatherings are one of the fastest-growing formats in nightlife right now.

We didn't call it soft clubbing when we built it into Mantra Beach Club. We called it a ritual - morning yoga and sound healing at sunrise, then a signature sunset ritual with music and cocktails as the day wound down. It wasn't a wellness pivot. It was an honest read of what our guests actually wanted from a full day at a beach club, not just a night.

What the current trend gets right: people aren't rejecting nightlife, they're rejecting the idea that a night out has to end in a wrecked morning. What it sometimes gets wrong is treating this as an alternative to real nightlife rather than an extension of it. The venues doing this well aren't swapping the DJ booth for a yoga mat. They're building a full day around both, with the same level of care.

For venue owners thinking about this now, my advice is practical: don't bolt a wellness program onto your existing format and call it done. Guests can tell the difference between a genuine daily rhythm and a marketing add-on. If you're going to run a sunrise session, staff it properly, program it with the same attention as your headline night, and connect it to the rest of your identity - don't treat it as a separate business bolted onto the real one.

This is also where the line between hospitality and entertainment consulting starts to disappear. A good sunrise program is part F&B, part programming, part brand, all at once. Getting all three right together is usually where I come in.

The room that used to close at sunrise is now the room that opens with it. That's not a trend fading out. That's a format maturing.
